QA Engineer

Here at Mediahuis we are looking for ... 


... a QA Automation Engineer for the Publishing Studio team within Domain News which is responsible for the smooth operation of the internal tools which editors of our news brands use, mainly to send out newletters and push notification campaigns. The toolset is widely adopted within Mediahuis and used by a large amount of (inter)national news brands whom you will be working with to further improve and expand the product.

Together with the team, you will be mandated to take necessary measures to further increase the quality throughout our product delivery. Obviously, this means you have to push back from time to time.

You enjoy taking initiative, putting quality first and you believe in the power of collaboration. You understand that automated testing is necessary to guarantee quality during iterations and know how to balance your work to improve quality both for software as well as the processes which are already in place.

Why you exactly?

You have experience in testing and a keen interest in test automation. You are happy to experiment with tools to optimise the automated testing process. To do so, you will be given the freedom to immerse yourself in this process. Although we are not looking for a developer, you have sufficient technical knowledge to extend our collection of technical and functional tests.

In addition to software quality, you also attach significant importance to the process.  You consider it an asset that as a QA Automation Engineer, you are not the last person to be consulted but you will have an important seat at the table throughout the entire discovery and delivery process. You believe in the added value of technologies that have a direct impact on end users, our readers.

Required skills:

  • Preliminary experience in (manual) web testing, preferably in an agile environment;  
  • Experience in one or more scripting or programming languages, preferably JavaScript;
    • Experience with automated testing frameworks such as or are a great asset.
    • Experience with automated API testing tools such as Postman is also desired.
  • Familiar with CI/CD pipelines and solutions offering said functionalities;
  • Certified in a testing methodology (ISTQB, T-Map, etc.).


  • Able to query SQL databases to complement and improve test scenario's;
  • Understanding of HTML and CSS;
  • Experience with Docker;
  • Experience with AWS and/or Amazon Cognito;
  • You are familiar the Atlassian toolset (Confluence, JIRA).

How will you be working? 


  • You will be responsible for meeting requirements and achieving high-quality delivery of our technologies; 
  • You will monitor the quality of the applications and their underlying processes by testing them in a structured and methodical manner using test scenarios that you may or may not have designed yourself;
  • You will examine the software delivery process with a critical eye and provide suggestions where necessary;
  • You will have a leading role in the release management process of the software being developed;  
  • You can work independently but also attach significant importance to a good team spirit. You also realise that the department plays an important central role within a large international group. Within your field you will be developing your role to be an expert and ambassador; 
  • You are always willing to help your colleagues, even outside of your specialist areas.

You have an agile mindset and really like this way of working. You also know how important it is to communicate effectively so that everyone is always on board. You speak fluent English. Speaking Dutch is a definite asset.
