a Database Security Engineer for the infrastructure domain within our Group Technology.

Your impact. 

At Mediahuis, security is a top priority as we work to build a safe and reliable working environment. To support this, we’ve created a dedicated project group for targeting key security goals that we enlisted for this year. We are looking for a freelance database security engineer to work with us on these projects. In this role, you’ll manage our MSSQL databases, ensuring smooth operations, optimal performance, secure access and seamless migrations.

 Your role includes. 

• Managing and maintaining the key databases within the Mediahuis Group (MSSQL), including installations, perform backups, and recovery tests to prevent data loss and maximise availability.
• You will ensure database security by designing and implementing measures aligned with best practices and Mediahuis security guidelines, managing user access and roles, conducting regular security audits.
• Actively monitor and analyse database performance to quickly identify and resolve problems.
• Analyzing current user needs and expectations while anticipating future demands. Based on these insights, you develop improvement projects to ensure our infrastructure evolves with the organization.
• You will contribute expertise in network security within projects, implement technical solutions, and research new technologies to enhance security.

This role requires extensive knowledge of database architecture, performance optimisation and IT security to ensure data availability, integrity and security. You bring an analytical insight and your proactive approach in performance monitoring. With your strong communication skills, you are able to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

Furthermore experience in the following skills would help you get up to speed quickly:

• You are available for a  freelance assignment for a year, and you are available to come to the Antwerp office once a week.
• experience in database management and security.
• Thorough knowledge of Oracle and MSSQL databases, including clustering, backup/restores and query optimisation, familiarity with Linux and Windows OS for database administration and security.
• In-depth knowledge of database security, including access management, audit logging and data encryption.

Collaborating with colleagues across various countries, you will support innovative digital solutions used by all our media brands. 

More specifically, you will join the infrastructure team, you will workclosely with the security team and other IT domains to create a robust and secure database environment.
