Here's a summary of what the job entails: 

In our Azure cloud and on-prem environment, you will help build a data foundation in which all data sources are made accessible for dashboards, analyses and other information products for Mediahuis.   

• As a BI Engineer you will ensure the foundation of our state-of-the-art data products that provide important insights about our readers and advertisers;   

• The team works on a self-service setup so that the focus is on supporting (enabling) the business. Do not expect a reporting factory with a pick-up counter but a department that stimulates our colleagues to generate their own insights and dive into the data;   

• Consequently, you start in close consultation with our business users to gather the reporting requirements in order to model the data we acquire;   

• You will play a pivotal role in the design and alignment of ETL processes and data modeling, and you are eager to mentor our junior engineers.  

• You are responsible for the effective design and realization of components of our data warehouse, with data pipelines from source to end user;   

• You actively maintain solutions in the Azure cloud;   

• Finally, you will also monitor with the team the governance around the use of our BI products. Here you will be responsible with the team for aligning the models and architecture for reporting at local and group level.

You will join TPS (Technology & Product Studio), Mediahuis' International IT & data department, where passion, innovation and customer focus come together in the dynamic media landscape. Specifically, you’ll join the BI Engineering team. This team works on a self-service setup, which enables the business to be able to extract insights from the data. The team is involved from development to production and facilitates all domains within the Mediahuis Group.  

At TPS, your contributions will directly impact the experiences of millions of readers. With the continually changing needs of our readers, you will have the opportunity to challenge yourself and gain new knowledge constantly. 

What's on your CV?

We find it at least as important that you, like us, want to go all the way. Passionate about data, communicative, analytical and flexible. You can deal with the fact that priorities can suddenly change along the way. Your understanding of our business will be a valuable asset in transforming data into actionable insights.  

You have an agile mindset and love this way of working. You also know how important it is to communicate well, so that everyone is always on board. A good knowledge of Dutch and English is a must.    

To be successful within this position you have already walked some meters as a BI Engineer within an ETL-BI/datawarehouse environment. It is logical that you have knowledge of:    

• Azure Stack: Synapse, Serverless/dedicated pools, Data lake, Azure storage, Pipelines, Data Factory, Spark pools, key vaults, security, … 

• Azure Cloud architecture: Data Lake/Lakehouse 

• CI/CD: DevOps/GIT 

• T/SQL;  

• PowerBI & Modeling of Semantic Models 

• Root cause analysis
